Purely as a fishmonger, I’d rate this place a 10, but some of the offerings in the newly expanded market section are just good, not superlative. But the quality of the fish is amazing. If you don’t see what you want, ask, because it might be in the back but not yet on display. In the past few weeks I’ve purchased the best red snapper and yellow fin tuna I’ve ever had; pity my culinary skills didn’t do them justice.

review from 1/22/04: River Falls Seafood gets a rating of 8 based on that crabcake hsu raves about. He’s right. Also outstanding is the fried shrimp. It is quite simply the lightest, least greasy, tastiest fried shrimp I’ve ever had. Not all the side dishes live up to the standards set by these two dishes. If you’re in Potomac and in need of lunch, this is not only your only option (Potomac is simply lousy with lousy restaurants), it’s a great option.

It’s a _fishmonger_ fer crying out loud. And in a hoity-toity neighborhood noted for its general lack of truly good food opportunities, even.

This place is the exception. You won’t find a better crabcake, cooked or uncooked, on this side of the Bay...at least until you wrap around to Ocean City again. It’s all blue crab, and mostly lump backfin at that. I’d like to think that even if I weren’t born a Marylander, I’d still recognize it as the single best damned shellfish dish known to man.

Well, except maybe for a nice lobster risotto ;)

I would trade away any restaurant in Dupont, except Kramer’s, in order to have this instead. At once a carryout shop and a fishmonger, with a good selection of fresh bread and other ancillaries. Everything is top quality and mouth-watering.

The fish, the fish... the fish counter is beautiful. We’re talking sushi-grade, but for dinner. Prepared food for take out [there are some tables outside, if the weather cooperates] is mostly fried, but so tasty. Good bread, too.
