Pizzeria Paradiso

California-type pizza restaurant, very good for what it is. Unfortunately, there are some weaknesses — it can be cramped and noisy, waiters are often overworked, and there is often a long wait with no reservations taken. Parties of more than four are accepted but not recommended. The best way to visit is as a late lunch (after 2 pm), when the pace is much more leisurely.

The new Georgetown branch serves food that is essentially identical to the original Pizzeria Paradiso in Dupont. However, it is larger and has a full bar (including Chimay on tap).

Also consider Coppi’s, a quieter and more Italian restaurant on U St, but at least as strong in pizza. They don’t have Chimay, though.

Both locations have charming interior spaces. The pizzas are outstanding. Remember when ordering that less is more. At least here it is. The simplest pizzas are the best.

...what? there are other foods on the menu? Can’t comment, never tried ’em. The pizzas are too darned good.

Not your “traditional” crust-sauce-cheese pizzas, here. Brick oven pizza, good dough, fresh ingredients, no sauce. Friendly service, french-press coffee, and Chimay Rouge.

The service is spotty when there aren’t some of the more experienced staff on hand to balance things out. Weekend evenings, that’s not a problem, but you’ll have to contend with the likely 45-minute wait for a table. I’m happiest when Jason is working there- it’s nice to be met with a genuine smile, and relaxed but mindful service. He doesn’t even have to be my particular server- his sunny good cheer seems to spread to anyone within range.
