Coppi’s was a standout. I’m always a sucker for tomato & mozz, but my friends know this, so even though I was a few minutes late one was on its way for me. mmmm. Happily, Coppi’s serves half and full orders of their entrées. I got a half order of the gnocchi, which was just about perfect. Uncomplicated, with great ingredients, it was enough to make me want to eat Italian more frequently. Much to the frustration of my friends, I’ll frequently veto Italian, just because I rarely enjoy it. Portions are inevitably too big, dishes too rich, and the bill too much- but I had none of those problems here!

Dessert was affogato, but they called it something else... I relaxed in bliss.

Edit: Caffe Viennese. Ice cream, coffee, and whipped cream and chocolate. Empirically, a concoction calculated to lift me out of the deepest of doldrums and even induce a smile.

Still a really enjoyable place for dinner. And I’m still loving those half-size portions. If there’s space at the bar, grab a stool and eat there. The bartender is great, and she’s part of what makes this just a wonderful neighborhood restaurant.

See below; I have nothing to add to their comments. Not much to look at on the outside, but here be a fine kitchen at work.

Nuts. I forgot to bring my notebook or snag a menu, so I can’t write too detailed a review. Last night a group of us dined at Coppi’s, sampling two different appetizers, three pasta dishes, two pizzas, and four desserts. Everything was wonderful. My gnocchi with tomato, marjoram and cheese was just that — nothing else — but it needed nothing else. The insalata of tomato, basil, and mozzarella was perfect (wonder if they’ll have that dish out of season?). The other pastas were quite tasty; one was a fried ravioli with a filling of chard and nettles in crab sauce, the other some type of noodle in pesto with tomatoes. The pizzas were very thin crusted, crispy, and not overloaded with sauce. The pizza margherita, for instance, was just cheese, chopped tomato, ad basil. Among the desserts were something involving espresso and ice cream and chocolate; cherries over homemade ice cream; cherries in zabaglione (yum!), and an assortment of ice creams and sorbets.

This is exactly the kind of restaurant I’d go to weekly if I lived nearby: a nice, unpretentious neighborhood joint serving wonderful food. Places like Coppi’s make me wish I lived in the city.
