Part of my satisfaction certainly is their location: they’re in Loehmann’s Plaza on Graham & 50, nicely close to were I usually am when I have a masala dosa “need.” (Much closer than Udapi Palace in MD!)
They have a buffet during the week & a different (more extensive) buffet selection on the weekend, but as a vegetarian I don’t find the $9ish worthwhile when I can get a dosa and perhaps an appetizer or laasi.
Their laasi are premade & poured to order. The salty laasi is OK, and better than the mango (which has a disappointing from-a-can taste.)
This is a paper napkin, food on styrofoam & plastic tray kinda place. The food is promptly prepared (or you pick up a plate etc for the buffet to serve yourself) and handed over the counter.
There’s typically a bit of soup and a bit of coconut chutney with each entree — and the entree portions are appropriately sized. (Read: I have to be very hungry to finish a dosa and an appetizer, yet rarely leave more than a bite or two behind)
This is a good choice for the quick fix of South & North Indian, cafeteria style, with Bollywood films & music videos on a few monitors.
Note: The weekend specials are worth checking out. Lentil donuts in yoghurt sauce, yum!
Vegan / Vegetarian Note: Punjab Dhaba has the Compassion Over Killing sticker on their door stating they are vegan / vegetarian friendly. As I am lacto-veg, I haven’t looked closely for their vegan options, but can say I’m happy with their Indian veg food.
