The Frozen Dairy Bar has a long history in Falls Church: most recently, it’s now a part of the strip mall on the SE corner of Route 50 & Annandale Road, near a rather good local coffee shop (Perks Cafe) and IHOP.
Note: This is a custard stand, not an ice cream parlor. If you want ice cream, go across the street to Baskin-Robbins.
The Dairy Bar follows the typical custard stand approach: there’s vanilla and chocolate every day, and a special flavor that changes either daily or weekly.
AND unlike other frozen custard places, the Dairy Bar also carries a “low-carb frozen dessert,” which does not have any eggs in it and is therefore my sole menu option :-) The non-custard soft serve is like all other soft serves I’ve found: vanilla, chocolate, or swirl; kinda ice-milk, not really creamy, but cold and flavorful.
Reviews from friends I’ve taken there are consistently good, particularly on some of the flavors du jour.
There are a couple of benches outside, so you can enjoy your custard on a nice evening. If you are there after 6pm, go down the strip mall a few doors and you’ll find the outdoor seating for Perks Cafe — they close early, so you can use their space for late night custard.
