Joe’s Noodle House

Arrrgh. Decided to try this place again. Got a noodle dish. No flavor. Boring. Then I found out that Joe’s, despite the name, sucks for noodles. Supposedly better for Szechuan specialties. Maybe one more tyr in a week or so, then I give up.

Original review, 3/30/05: Maybe I ordered the wrong things, but after reading raves about Joe’s on several internet websites, I had high hopes.

It’s a smallish place, kinda hard to find, and you place your order at the counter after you’ve been seated and had a chance to read the crazily long menu. Our group ordered spring rolls (rather bland, crispy but also oily), tofu in hot sauce (very hot indeed, but that was the only flavor, so kinda boring), a noodle soup with tomato and tofu (mild and gentle, but tasty), kung pao chicken (good flavor but way too oily), some sort of fish soup (probably the best dish of our evening), and sweet bean paste rolls (awful).

With so many choices Joe’s probably deserves another try or ten, but frankly I’m still enamored of A&J just up the street, so I doubt I’ll be back. I feel bad about it, though, because all the staff were so polite and friendly; one was even concerned that I didn’t eat my bean paste rolls (which, by the way, I never fail to order at A&J — I love them there).
