2004-02-06 The emphasis at Thyme Square Cafe is on organic ingredients in mostly vegetarian preparations, though when I last ate here a token steak had been added to the menu, which already had a token chicken dish and one or two token fish dishes. The menu usually changed a little every season, so you could always try something new or go back to an old favorite. The food was often well-executed, but sometimes poorly conceived, going from creative to downright odd in a few instances. I stopped going because quality was uneven, as was service, and the kitchen very slow. Orders would take forever to come out. One day you’d wait five minutes for your appetizer, then twenty five for your main course; other days you’d get your first dish in twenty minutes, and barely have time to finish before the next one arrived. On the other hand, if you have time for a leisurely meal with a group, and are in search of something different, Thyme Square is a good choice. The only other thing like it (that I know of) in cuisine and ambience is The Orchard in Frederick, Maryland. |
