Amma Vegetarian Kitchen

Amma has been remodeled into a horrible pastiche of avocado green, but food quality has jumped up a lot. Stick to the south indian food, namely the dosas, idli, vadas. Really good sambhar.

I’ve only been to the location in Vienna, which has the typcially order-at-counter, get-food-on-plastic-tray approach to serving up consistenly tasty, homemade-y South Indian. Yum. I love a restaurant where I can eat everything on the menu :-)

I typically get a chole dish, often with chappati. Sometimes a rava masala dosa, which is never as huge as those at Udapi Palace but certainly as tasty and appropriately crispy.

The desserts are OK, certainly nothing to “save room” for. Order another entree or ask for some coconut chutney if you are still a bit hungry, or head up the road for dessert at Sunflower.

South Indian. Good for quick food in the middle of work or after; not enough of a draw for me to drive to VA for it.

The Georgetown location is more upscale and enjoyable, but it is in Georgetown, and the service... ambles. Still, I really enjoy South Indian, and they do a reasonable job of it.

Quickie South Indian place, good for lunch.
